Born September9, 1855, Capt. Anthony F. Lucas was the engineer in charge of drilling the historic well at Spindletop. Gladys City will celebrate Capt. Lucas' birthday with a day of puzzles, games and activities that will challenge young and old alike to see engineering in a whole new light. Mix the right chemicals to make goop. Build a model oil derrick. Race a balloon car. Marvel at the "unpoppable" balloon. And test your problem-solving skills at the 'Creation Station.' Plus, we'll finish the day blowing the gusher at 2 p.m.
