Lecture: MELANIE SANFORD-Textile Conservator

As principal conservator and owner of Textile Preservation Services of Texas, Ms. Sanford has nearly a decade of experience providing conservation and preservation expertise for a wide variety of textiles, including historic clothing, samplers, flags and quilts. Ms. Sanford will be on-site at Gladys City in October conducting a full assessment of the museum's textiles collection and has graciously agreed to present a public talk on the care and preservation of historic and heirloom quilts, including the storage, handling, exhibiting and cleaning of quilts along with ample time for demonstration and questions.

Dishman Art Museum parking is limited. Special visitor parking passes will be available at the museum from 9:40 am to 10 am on October 12, for those attending Ms. Sanford's talk.
Ms. Sanford's lecture is presented in conjunction with programming sponsored by the College of Fine Arts & Communication through a National Endowment for the Arts grant, including the Dishman Art Museum's prestigious Quilt National show, performances of the musical Quilters, and talks by regional and national quilt artists, as well as faculty from the Department of History.
