Dr. Christy Price will deliver a faculty development workshop, Engaging Millennial Learners, focused on the factors that influence student motivation and desire to learn. She will explain how teachers can create learning environments that are linked to and supportive of the current student culture. The participatory session will offer a brief review of the current literature including research findings from Dr. Price's work. Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in activities that will require them to reflect on their own teaching methods and/or institutional practices. Open-ended questionnaires, check-lists, and digitized video clips of student interviews will be utilized in order to facilitate discussion regarding practical steps that can be taken to implement the findings into your class. Dr. Price is a professor of psychology at Dalton State College in Georgia. She received the Advancement of Teaching U.S. Professor Award from the Carnegie Foundation in 2010 in addition to several local and state-wide teaching awards in her 20 year career. More recently, her research has focused on engaging Millennial learners and preventing incivility in the classroom. This workshop is part of the Center for Teaching+Learning Enhancement's distinguished speakers series. Faculty will receive participation credit towards the Faculty Development Program. The workshop will last approximately three hours. Todd Pourciau todd.pourciau@lamar.edu |
