The JoAnne Gay Dishman Department of Nursing is hosting an Open House for the public to tour our newly renovated Simulation Center.

The new Simulation Center enables students to experience taking care of simulated patients with all types of common, complex, and rare conditions. Students are able to use the information they have learned in class and apply it to a patient situation and make real decisions. Also, students are able to see the outcomes of their decisions and judgments; whether the outcomes are positive or negative. The Simulation Center is an excellent place to learn without the risk of causing harm to patients. Each simulation room is equipped with a high tech mannequin, computer for documentation, supplies needed for medication administration and procedures, and a telephone to notify the primary care provider of changes in the patient condition. Patient safety is promoted by placing students in realistic and often hectic situations in order to teach them how to think and make quick and accurate decisions. Students appreciate these experiences and state they are more prepared for exams as well as clinical situations they encounter in the hospital.
